Baek Jung-hyun’s stellar performance sees Samsung beat unbeatable LG for second straight day…and ‘keeper Oh Seung-hwan makes another save

Samsung defeats LG for the second straight day to clinch the best-of-seven series.

Samsung defeated LG 6-3 on Friday at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, South Korea, behind a strong pitching performance from starter Baek Jeong-hyun and an even performance from the bats.

Samsung’s Koo Jae-rook became the 53rd player in KBO history to reach 250 doubles and 64th to reach 2,000 runs, while Lee Jae-hyun broke his own single-season record for most home runs with his eighth of the season. LG, on the other hand, has lost two straight after winning seven in a row.

Samsung’s starting lineup was center fielder Kim Hyun-jun, right fielder Kim Sung-yoon, designated hitter Koo Ja-uk, catcher Kang Min-ho, third baseman Ryu Ji-hyuk, left fielder Kim Tae-hoon, first baseman Oh Jae-il, shortstop Lee Jae-hyun and second baseman Kim Dong-jin.

LG’s batting order was right fielder Hong Chang-ki, left fielder Moon Sung-joo, designated hitter Kim Hyun-soo, first baseman Austin Dean, shortstop Oh Ji-hwan, third baseman Moon Bo-kyung, catcher Park Dong-won, center fielder Park Hae-min, and second baseman Shin Min-jae.

Samsung manager Park Jin-man said, “It can be physically exhausting in the heat, but we’ve been managing it well in training. That’s why the players are showing good concentration in the game.”

“With the addition of Koo Ja-rook, the team is stronger, and the substitutes such as Kim Dong-jin and Kim Sung-yoon are doing a good job, so even if someone misses, someone else will fill in the gap. Especially if the substitutes do a good job, the atmosphere will be even better.”

LG coach Yeom Kyung-yeop said, “Games like yesterday’s are the most regrettable. It’s too bad we lost with four outs (to win).”

LG scored two runs in the first inning on back-to-back singles by Austin and Oh Ji-hwan. Samsung answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a triple by Kim Hyun-joon and a sacrifice fly to left field by Kim Sung-yoon. In the top of the third inning, Samsung took a 3-2 lead on consecutive RBI singles by Kim Hyun-joon, Kim Sung-yoon, and Koo Ja-uk and a sacrifice fly to center field by Ryu Ji-hyuk.

LG tied the game in the top of the fourth inning with a solo arching single by Austin, the leadoff hitter. Samsung responded in the bottom of the fourth when Lee Jae-hyun hit a huge shot over the left field fence to regain the lead, 4-3, and added two more runs in the fifth on a double and Ryu Ji-hyuk’s RBI single. 스포츠토토
