K League 1 (1st Division) Jeonbuk Hyundai welcomed Daegu FC to their backyard and earned three points. Song Min-kyu scored his fourth goal of the season, giving the club a foothold in the top half of the table.
Jeonbuk won 1-0 at home against Daegu in the 17th round of the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 at Jeonju World Cup Stadium on Sunday. With the victory, Jeonbuk won for the second straight time and closed the gap on the top teams with 24 points, seven wins, three draws, and seven losses. Daegu, on the other hand, ended its five-match unbeaten streak in the league (three wins and two draws) to fall to 24 points, six wins and five draws.
It was a clash of two teams that are riding the upward momentum side by side and looking to make a leap to the top. Jeonbuk had gained momentum with a 2-0 home win over arch-rivals Ulsan Hyundai on March 3. Daegu also moved into mid-table with a five-match unbeaten streak in the league. They closed the gap on third-place Jeju United (28-8W, 4D, 5L), who had played one more game before the match. Naturally, the managers of both teams were eager to capitalize on the win and move up the table.
“I think the win against Ulsan will help (the team’s mood), but it’s important not to get complacent or get carried away,” said Jeonbuk acting head coach Kim Doo-hyun. “There are certain plays we promised when the opponent was down, and I hope the players will fulfill them well.” Daegu coach Choi Won-kwon also said, “We need to ride the good momentum well. “We always have a lot of crises, but last season we survived in the first division, and this year we overcame the early slump. I told the players to fight well because we are here to get points.”
Despite being ranked higher than Daegu, Jeonbuk’s goals were hard to come by. Jeonbuk dominated the game with 63% of the ball share in the first half, but couldn’t get a shot off due to the Daegu defense. At halftime, Jeonbuk removed Gustavo and Oh Jae-hyuk and added Amano and Cho Kyu-sung to increase their offense. 먹튀검증
After knocking on the Daegu goal several times, Song Min-kyu did it. In the 12th minute of the second half, Hapa Silva’s dribble was blocked by a defender, but when the ball came to him, he scored the first goal with a sensational right-footed curling shot.
After conceding the lead, Daegu exchanged Lee Yong-rae for Vassellus in the 16th minute and introduced Park Se-jin in place of Keita in the 22nd minute to speed up the offense. In response, Jeonbuk substituted Moon Sun-min for Hapa Silva in the 22nd minute to prevent Daegu’s two wing backs from coming up, and in the 30th minute, they replaced Song Min-kyu with Meng Sung-woong to solidify their defense. In the 31st minute, goalkeeper Kim Jung-hoon blocked a sharp shot by Vaselus to give the home fans the three points.
