The Samsung Lions are in winning mode.
Samsung defeated SSG Landers 5-4 in the 13th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on Nov. 11. With the two-game winning streak, Samsung’s season record is 41 wins, one draw and 56 losses. Their record against SSG is now 6-7.
Starting pitcher David Buchanan allowed two runs on nine hits in six innings with one walk and two strikeouts. It was a quality start (six starts with three or fewer earned runs). The bullpen fire didn’t seal the deal, but it did set the stage for the win.
At the plate, Kim Sung-yoon went 5-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, Koo Ja-uk went 2-for-1 with a double, one walk, one RBI and one run scored, and Lee Jae-hyun went 3-for-1 with a double, one home run, one RBI and one run scored. Kim Hyun-jun, who had the game-winning hit, was 1-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.

Samsung fought back. In the fourth inning, Oh Won-seok took advantage of a shaky start. The leadoff hitter, Kim Sung-yoon, hit a bunt single to third base. Koo Ja-rook followed with a walk, and Kang Min-ho hit a grounder in front of the catcher to put runners on first and third. Chance to tie the game. In the fifth inning, Samsung took the lead. One out later, Lee Jae-hyun hit a solo shot to left-center field. Samsung took a 3-2 lead. SSG didn’t go down easily either. In the eighth inning, Park Sung-hyun doubled to center and Kim Sung-hyun followed with a single to left to pull within one. With runners on first and second, Kim Min-sik singled to right, and the runner from second quickly came home to tie the game.
Samsung regained the lead in the ninth inning. The bases were loaded. Kim Hyun-joon hit a grounder in front of the shortstop, which allowed the runner at third to cross home plate, and Kim sprinted to first base. The video review upheld the call and Samsung took the lead.
Seung-hwan Oh was called upon to extend the lead to one run. He struck out Kim Kang-min, walked Choi Joo-hwan, and got Choi Jung to fly out to left field to end the game.
