Lee Kang-in’s ‘express helper’ and mother’s determination…”To make Kang-in do better!”

Uhm Won-sang (Ulsan Hyundai), who will be competing at the Hangzhou Asian Games in September, says he wants to help “ace” Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain) play to his full potential.

Hwang Sun-hong’s Asian Games squad will convene at Paju NFC on Sept. 25 for a three-day training camp. After winning gold at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, the team will be looking to win their third consecutive Asian Games title.

The Hangzhou Asian Games were scheduled to be held in 2022, but were postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition age was increased by one year from 23 to 24, and the final roster size was increased from 20 to 22.

Head coach Hwang Sun-hong announced the final roster for the Asian Games on Nov. 14. Lee Kang-in, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain in France, was included, while Park Jin-seop, Baek Seung-ho (Jeonbuk) and Seol Young-woo (Ulsan) were selected as wild cards.

The 14-man squad included Baek Seung-ho, Seol Young-woo, and Hwang Jae-won (Daegu FC), who were selected for the Team K League to participate in the Coupang Play Series, as well as overseas players Lee Kang-in, Park Kyu-hyun (Dynamo Dresden), Jung Woo-young (Stuttgart), and Hong Hyun-seok (KAA Hent), and Lee Sang-min, who was excluded due to a drunk driving scandal.

In an interview prior to the start of training, Uhm Won-sang said that he would be by his ace Lee Kang-in’s side to help him perform at his best.
