Ohtani goes ’35-for-3′ in Angels’ extra-inning win over Yankees

Ohtani’s 35th home run helped the Angels win the game.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim won the 2023 Major League Baseball game against the New York Yankees on July 18 at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA.

The Angels won the game 4-3 in 10 extra innings. With their 47th win of the season, the Angels are one win away from returning to the .500 mark.

Griffin Canning (LAA) and Luis Severino (NYY) started the game, and the teams were tied at 0-0 through five innings.

It was the Yankees who broke the tie first. Oswaldo Cabrera hit a two-run double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Yankees the lead. The Angels got one back in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Matt Tice, but the Yankees got one back in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Gleyber Torres.

The Angels tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Shohei “Superstar” Ohtani was the hero. Ohtani stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh and hit his 35th home run of the season, a game-tying two-run shot off Yankees closer Michael King. On a 1-2 pitch, he drove a 97-mile-per-hour fastball outside from King over the left-center field fence.

Unable to find a winner in regulation, the teams went to extra innings. The Yankees failed to score in the top of the 10th, and the Angels won the game with two outs in the bottom of the 10th when Michael Stefanik hit an RBI single. 메이저사이트

Canning pitched 5.2 innings of two-run ball with 12 strikeouts, Jimmy Hudgett pitched 0.1 scoreless innings, Herrardo Reyes pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, Matt Moore pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, and Aaron Loup pitched 1 scoreless inning.

Ohtani, batting second, went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to raise his season average to .306.

The Yankees lost despite a six-inning, one-run outing from starter Severino, but a struggling bullpen.
