Only three outs to victory…Ace turns around with the tying run on base

He pitched well, but couldn’t get the win. The ace watched nervously from the dugout and turned his back on the game when it was tied.

Samsung Lions ace Won Tae-in started against the Lotte Giants in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Sajik Stadium in Busan on July 27, giving up two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four in eight innings. He pitched a Quality Start Plus (seven innings of three earned runs or less).

Won pitched a perfect game. But he didn’t get the win. With a 3-2 lead going into the eighth inning, the ball was handed over to left-hander Lee Seung-hyun, who failed to record a single out and gave up a 3-5 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, with runners on first and third, Lee induced an infield grounder to Ahn Chi-hong, but allowed a runner to score from third. Won Tae-in, who was watching the game from the dugout, turned his back on the tying run. In the end, Lee gave up a walk-off home run to Yoo Kang-nam to take the loss.

Won Tae-in pitched a perfect game except for the home run in the first inning. In the bottom of the first inning, Won gave up a single up the middle to Yoon Dong-hee. He got Jeon Jun-woo to ground out to third base, but was hit by Jack Rex. He threw a 144 mph fastball that was caught by Rex’s bat. The ball sailed over the right field fence.

But Won wasn’t rattled. He quickly got out of the inning with a matching pitch. He needed just five pitches to strike out Yoo Kang-nam, Park Seung-wook, and Kim Min-soo in the second inning. In the top of the fifth, he gave up a single to left to Park Seung-wook, but thwarted the steal attempt to strand the runner. He then struck out Kim Min-soo to end the inning.

The sixth inning was the most difficult. Hwang Sung-bin grounded out to first base, but gave up a double to left-center to Ko Seung-min. Yoon Dong-hee singled up the middle to put runners on first and third, but Jeon Jun-woo struck out the side to end the inning.

Won remained untouched in the seventh, striking out Rex, getting Ahn Chi-hong to ground out to third and Yoo Kang-nam to ground out in front of the pitcher. In the eighth inning, Won gave up a leadoff single to Han Dong-hee, but struck out the next batter, Hwang Sung-bin, on a fly ball to left field and Ko Seung-min to end the inning. 메이저사이트

Won Tae-in’s pitching helped the bats come alive. Trailing 0-2 in the sixth, Oh Jae-il singled to right with runners on first and second, and Lee Jae-hyun followed with a two-run single in the seventh to make it 3-2. However, Lee was unable to protect the lead, and Won Tae-in was unable to secure the win.

With the loss, Samsung falls to 27-42 on the season. They remain in last place, three games behind ninth-place Hanwha.
