Tottenham CB’s shock confession…”There was a divide between Conte and the squad”

Cristian Romero (25, Tottenham) admits that there was a divide between Antonio Conte (54) and the Tottenham Hotspur squad.

Football London published an interview with Tottenham Hotspur central defender Cristian Romero on Friday (June 25). Romero spoke about Antonio Conte, who was sacked last season.

Conte arrived at Tottenham in November 2021 to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked for poor performance. Expectations were high for Conte, as he was a “big name” manager after Jose Mourinho, but he ended up parting ways with the club before the end of the season.

Ahead of the 2023-2024 season, current Tottenham defender Romero spoke about Conte. Romero revealed that there was a rift between the players and Conte.

“When I arrived at the team after winning the World Cup, there was a small division between Conte and the squad. “I feel responsible for the last season, which was not good,” he said. “It was very difficult. My first game back was against Aston Villa and that’s where it all started,” he said.

“After winning one game and losing two, the team was divided. The players and the manager weren’t going in the same direction and it was really difficult.”

Romero explained that the division predates the 1-6 loss to Newcastle United in April. “Even before the Newcastle game, the manager and the players were already divided and going in a very bad direction, and it’s very difficult when that happens in the competitive Premier League,” he said.

“I watched the Newcastle game, I watched the Liverpool game, I watched the Manchester United game. I especially didn’t like the fact that Hugo Llorente’s last game was against Newcastle, because he was a really good person and brought so much to the team.” 안전놀이터

Romero added: “I was not happy with the way we finished last season. I’m ready to give back to the team what they expect from me and the trust they put in me. I’m going to try to do my best,” he said, vowing to do his best in the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
